Mary Johnson is the principal of Olympic Middle School in Shelton, Washington, where she is committed to building systems that support the academic, behavioral, and social-emotional success of every student. With more than 20 years in education, Mary has served in a variety of roles including classroom teacher, instructional coach, and school administrator.Mary believes that meaningful school improvement happens when educators build collective ownership around students, align systems to support learning, and continuously reflect on what students need most. Her work focuses on literacy, MTSS, PBIS, school culture, and creating conditions where students and staff can thrive.At Olympic Middle School, Mary has led collaborative efforts to strengthen Tier 1 systems, improve student engagement, increase attendance, and build a culture centered on the school's SOAR values: Safe, Open, Authentic, and Reliable.Mary is passionate about middle school education and believes these years play a critical role in helping students discover who they are, what they are capable of, and where they belong.When she is not at school, Mary enjoys spending time with her family, cheering on students and staff, and being routinely outsmarted by her cat, Stevie Nicks.
